Piggy’s Dog Treats is named after our rescues, Pippin and Iggy. We adopted each dog through Rescue Dogs Rock NYC who stepped in and saved both of their lives. Once they were healed and healthy enough to go up for adoption they were transported up north and we took them in as fosters.
Pippin is from South Carolina where he was found on the street and Iggy is from Texas where he had been brutally attacked by another dog which left him with a fractured spine and punctured lungs. We love them dearly and are grateful for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for saving them and giving them another chance at life. So, yes we are foster failures, but we are proud of it!
After seeing the heartbreaking images of animals stuck on rooftops during Hurricane Katrina I knew I wanted to get involved with helping animals and began making food donations to our local shelter and donations to HSUS. In time, with the support of Eric, I began doing transports for various rescue organizations, and before I knew it, I was a transport coordinator. The more and more we got involved, the more and more Eric and I loved it. Eric and I began doing home visits for potential adopters and we finally began to foster dogs in our home. During this time, I took some classes on animal welfare on the Coursera online platform and was honored to be asked to be an online mentor for the course “The Truth About Cats and Dogs.”
Pippin was our second foster, and our first adopted dog. Iggy was our third foster, and our second adopted dog. We are no longer able to foster as our house is full with two dogs and two cats, but one thing is for sure we love animals. As health is important for us, it is important for our animals too, which is why we started looking into making healthy treats for our animals (did I mention we have two cats at home too!!) We started dehydrating fruits, vegetables, etc. for us and now it has spiraled into Piggy’s! Healthy treats for your dogs. Because of where we started and our passions in life, we want to donate 50% of the proceeds to various animal rescue organizations. Stay tuned and like our Facebook page to see which organizations we are able to support!
